Rescue Efforts Continue for 20 Missing as Landslides Devastate China-Nepal Border Port
At least nine fatalities have been confirmed, while a powerful flash flood inflicted severe destruction on critical infrastructure in the region, Nepalese media disclosed.
The Rasuwa District Administration Office revealed that the sudden flood obliterated a vital cross-border route, severing the crucial link between Nepal and China.
The Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road segment has been rendered unusable. The Rasuwa Customs Office, its adjacent dry port yard in Timure, an electric vehicle charging station, and the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project dam all suffered varying degrees of damage. Additionally, the flood swept away approximately 35 electric vehicles, 23 container trucks, and six Sino trucks.
Officials confirmed the rescue of 55 individuals from flood-affected zones, comprising 50 Nepali citizens, one Chinese national, and four Indian nationals.
Authorities in China have issued warnings to Nepal about potential additional flooding as persistent rains continue across Tibet’s Nyalam region.
On Tuesday, local officials attributed the flash floods to intense rainfall on the Chinese side, which inundated the Lende River and severely damaged the Customs Office yard at the Rasuwagadhi border point.
Search and rescue teams have mobilized over 210 personnel and nearly 40 vehicles to aid in recovery operations.
More than 350 residents have been evacuated from vulnerable areas to ensure their safety.
